Why Serene exists

We were tired
of choosing.

Raised on qameez cuts and dupattas. Living in blazers, open floor plans, and group chats in three languages.

Women like us have too often been asked to choose between anonymous Western partywear that erases where we are from, and pieces so heavy and bridal-coded that they only make sense at someone’s wedding.

Serene is being built in the space between: refined, wearable South Asian dressing for an Eid dinner, a cousin’s mehndi, a wedding celebration, or dinner with a friend who will not ask you to explain your outfit.

The making of Serene

From line
to life.

The first collection is taking shape through sketching, fabric selection, cutting, printing and the small decisions that determine how a garment finally feels on the body.

The Yazma story

Made between
two worlds.

Yazma started at a kitchen table, not a design studio. On one side, a mother who has spent decades understanding how a woman should feel in her clothes — the drape, the cut, the occasion, the fabric that survives a wedding season.

On the other, her daughter, still finishing university, who grew up watching that same care before catching a school bus in a country that had no idea what a dupatta was.

“My mother’s instinct, met with my own life split between lecture halls and family weddings, English essays and Urdu poetry.”

We did not want to choose between honoring where we came from and living fully where we are now, so we stopped choosing.
